The state government on Monday urged the Union ministry of Railways to allocate 291 rakes to the fertiliser companies to transport the allotted stocks to the state for August and September. The Central government has allocated 448,900 tonnes of fertiliser to Karnataka for August and the state requires another 503,800 tonnes for September.

For the movement of the fertiliser, the state is in need of a total of 366 rakes of which already 75 rakes have been provided to carry 196,344 tonnes of fertiliser. A balance of 291 rakes are required in the remaining part of August and September months, chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said in a letter to Dinesh Trivedi, Minister for Railways.

A total quantity of 121,600 tonnes of fertiliser is likely to be moved from Kakinada and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the coming days. “As there is an urgency for such fertiliser movement, I request you to kindly instruct the concerned to ensure that sufficient rakes are allotted to the fertiliser companies,” Gowda said.
