Kalavati Bandurkar, the most visible face of drought-hit Vidarbha, on Tuesday withdrew from the Maharashtra assembly polls after a series of flip-flops. “Her son-in-law threatened that he would commit suicide if she contests the Maharashtra poll,” NGO Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti said.
Kalavati had shot into national focus after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had mentioned her plight in Parliament after a tour of Vidarbha where several debt-ridden farmers committed suicide.
