He has told some of his political confidants that, after analysing the results, he thinks that the BSP would gain more seats if fresh elections were held. It would only have to make minor adjustments in distributing tickets and strategising its campaign.
Ram claims that, though his party won only 67 seats, it lost as many as 92 seats by small margins. Plus, he is said to have found that the BSP lost another 125 seats by margins of 35,000 to 40,000 seats.
If fresh elections were to be held soon, the BSPs strategy would probably place less emphasis on wooing Muslims than it did in the September campaign. Though he persuaded Imam Abdullah Bukhari of Delhis Jama mosque and a host of other Muslim leaders to endorse the BSP, most Muslim voters chose to back the Samajwadi Party and its allies in the United Front.
