Congress MP Karan Singh tonight resigned from the Rajya Sabha, party sources said here.

Karan Singh has been accused by the opposition of occupying an office of profit, chairmanship of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Congress sources said Singh sent his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Congress MP from Maharashtra Gurudas Kamat has also resigned from the membership of Parliament and the presidentship of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee. He asked other MPs to follow suit to express solidarity with the Congress President.

Kamat met Sonia in the afternoon and submitted his resignation to protest "political vendetta and misinformation campaign" carried out by the BJP and other Opposition parties.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee today passed a resolution asking Sonia to withdraw her resignation as a Lok Sabha member and chairperson of the National Advisory Council. While asking her to withdraw the resignations, those who took part in the meeting lauded her "sacrifice."

Former prime minister VP Singh also praised Sonia's action saying that she had set a good tradition.
