Karnatak University in pact with British college

The Karnatak University, Dharwad, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sidney Sussex College (SSC) of the University of Cambridge for promoting research.
 
KU Vice-Chancellor S K Saidapur and Master from Sidney Sussex College Dame Sandra Dawson signed the MoU in the presence of principal secretary (education) Koushik Mukherjee.
 
The MoU provides for three visiting fellows from Dr D C Pavate Foundation who will go to Sidney Sussex College as senior members.
 
The visiting fellows under the Dr D C Pavate Foundation will take up projects at the Centre of International Studies (CIS), the Judge Business School (JBS) and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) of Cambridge University, every year.
 
It may be recalled that Dr D C Pavate, an alumnus of the Sidney Sussex College was awarded the title of 'Wrangler' by the Cambridge University for his academic record in Mathematics in 1927.
 
Vice chancellor S K Saidapur told Business Standard that the candidates for CIS will be selected through an open national-level competition, fellows for JBS and DAMTP will be selected through a contest conducted from among those employed by any institution in Karnataka for at least five years.
 
Under the MoU between KUD and SSC, the fellows have been selected to visit Cambridge University this year.
 
Those selected are Jayna Kothari, an advocate from Bangalore who will visit the CIS, while Anita Basalingappa, an assistant professor from Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad and Ramesh Kudenati from the department of Mathematics, Bangalore University will conduct the research at JBS and DAMTP respectively.
