Karnataka clears Rs 5,500 crore projects

The Karnataka government has cleared nine mega projects worth over Rs 5,550 crore.
 
These projects are expected to generate employment to nearly 15,194 people.
 
According to Industries and Commerce Minister RV Deshpande, these projects represent a mix of old and new economy.
 
He said the government had cleared the setting up of an industrial park for gem and jewellry manufacturing and trading.
 
"The park will come up in special economic zone at Sadahalli and Shettigere village in Bangalore."
 
The Rs 925 crore gem and jewellry park will be set up by Sound Craft Industries Limited and has the potential to employ 2500 people.
 
Some of the other key projects that have been cleared by the high- level committee include a pharma unit of Biocon as well as expanding its existing unit with an investment of Rs 150 crore and Rs 360 crore, respectively.
 
Sanction has been given to JSW Power Ltd to set up a 100 mw power plant at Bellary. The total cost of this project is Rs 229 crore.
 
Clearance has also been given for the expansion of the Information Technology Park Limited which will invest Rs 55 crore with an employment potential of 2000 people.
 
Similarly in the Information Technology Enabled Services sector, the Bangalore-based company Comat Technologies is planning to set up a Rs 69.25 crore business process outsourcing (BPO) unit .
 
In the next five years, the company projects its annual revenues to be nearly Rs 250 crore and an employee strength of 7,680.
