Karnataka Governor and chancellor of Universities in the state, Vajubhai Vala, has appointed a one-man commission headed by retired judge Justice B Padmaraj to probe into the alleged irregularities in Karnatak University at Dharwad during vice chancellor HB Walikar's regime.

The decision to constitute an inquiry commission comes in the wake of a delegation meeting the Governor at Bangalore on September 10 and urging him to look into the charges of irregularities.

Members of Save University Action Committee KS Jayant, former member of KU Syndicate, advocate Arun Joshi and former BJP corporator Iresh Anchatageri told reporters here on Saturday that the Governor's office had issued the order of forming an enquiry commission Friday night. Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, MP Prahlad Joshi and Hubli-Dharwad West MLA Arvind Bellad had also sought an inquiry.

Jayant said the action committee in its memorandum to the Governor had given details about the alleged irregularities by Walikar in appointment for teaching posts, purchase of blank mark-sheets, laboratory equipment, claiming money producing bogus bills and others.
