The state government has embarked upon on a new plan to develop entrepreneurs in the state titled ‘Udyamiyaagu, Udyoga Needu’ (Be an employer and offer jobs to others). This project would be launched in every district, said minister for large and medium industries Murugesh Nirani.
Inaugurating a workshop ‘Udyamiyaagu, Udyoga Needu’ jointly organised by the department of Industries and Commerce, CEDOK and Varnaaz, an IT and HR solutions firm, near Dharwad on Tuesday. He said as many as 1,000 project reports had been prepared by the Industries and Commerce Department depending on the needs of the consumers. Those wanting to become entrepreneurs have to register their names with the department.
They would be provided training for seven days. So far 2,000 students have enrolled their names and are undergoing training, he added. Those who have completed the training would be introduced to prestigious industries and also banks to fund them for their projects.
The government aims at producing at least 1 per cent of the total enrolled students as entrepreneurs and create a pro-entrepreneurship environment, Nirani said. There is a huge demand for food processing industries in Karnataka. Hence the department aims to set up a Food Park in north Karnataka and the land for this would be identified soon. Nirani stated that Karnataka was making giant strides in the field of IT and BT, and now aims at becoming the food bowl of south India. To encourage the young entrepreneurs, the Centre and state are giving subsidy from Rs 5 crore to Rs 50 crore and the youth to make best use of the industrial policies, the minister stressed.
Nirani said, the state government had requested Tata chairman emeritus Ratan Tata to invest Rs 2,500 crore in various sectors in Hubli-Dharwad so that the youth here can get better employment opportunities and also develop this region which has potential for rapid industrialisation. Fifty acres of land has been given to Infosys near the Hubli airport and 12 acre land for Desh Foundation chairman Gururaj Deshpande to set up IT companies. These project would begin soon, he added.
The state government is all set to tap the quality human resource available in the two-tier cities and develop them into entrepreneurs, he assured.
