Disagreeing with the opposition's demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to look into the 2G spectrum allocation scam, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said the step would only undermine the effectiveness of the Public Accounts Committee.
"The PAC is more powerful than the JPC, as it is headed by an Opposition MP. Does the demand imply that the opposition has no faith in the PAC, now headed by Murli Manohar Joshi of the BJP? A JPC will be headed by a ruling party member," the DMK chief said.
Writing in the party's mouthpiece 'Murasoli,' he said the PAC would go through the CAG report and there could be a detailed discussion in Parliament on the PAC report.
Further, no final decision on the spectrum issue could be taken as it was before the Supreme Court, he said.
On the 'unilateral' announcement by AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa that she would offer unconditional support to the UPA government in the event of DMK withdrawing support, he said the Congress had already shut its doors on her.
On her demand for Raja's arrest, Karunanidhi said before making allegations she should look at herself.
