Addressing a press conference here, he said it did not mean that he was thoroughly disappointed about its performance. He said the Deve Gowda ministry at the Centre was the compulsion of time as there was no other alternative to it. Karunanidhi said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had written a letter to him on the Almatti dam issue and he had forwarded the letter to the Prime Minister. Naidu was fully aware of his views on the issue, Karunanidhi said. Karunanidhi said his scheduled meeting with his Karnataka counterpart on September four was to prevail upon the Karnataka government to release enough water for cultivation in the Cauvery delta.
The present supply of water to Mettur was not enough for the Samba crop, he said. Any settlement of the dispute would be within the parameters of the Cauvery river water tribunal, he said.
On TMC president Moopanar's suggestion that farmers should also be involved in the negotiations Karunanidhi said he always endorsed Moopanar's view on the Cauvery issue.
Both of us share the same views on Cauvery, he said.
Karunanidhi said action would be taken against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha, for the misdeeds committed by her during the AIADMK rule.
Asked why there was a delay in her arrest, Karunanidhi said arrest could be done during the enquiry or punishment could be awarded by the court. However, this did not mean that she would not be arrested.
Karunanidhi said the government had already ordered action against rebel AIADMK leaders S Muthusamy, S Kannappan and C Aranganayagam. The enquiry was going on and the government had to proceed very cautiously as the court should not say at the time of trial that the government did not apply its mind during the enquiry, he said.
