The approval to establish the campuses was taken today during a meeting of the Kashmir University Council (KUC) chaired by Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha, who is also Chancellor of the University, a university spokesman said.
State Chief Minister and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vice-Chancellor Riyaz Punjabi, Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak, Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu, Amitabh Mattoo, and other senior officers attended today's meeting.
The twin Universities of Kashmir and Jammu will have as many as eight campuses spread across the state, including the two new additional campuses.
Further, processes to set up new campuses at Anantnag, Baramulla and Leh have already begun, Punjabi said, adding that the Anantnag campus would be functional by next month.
The KUC had earlier approved setting up of the Department of Food Science and Technology with introduction of five year integrated masters and doctoral programme in food science and technology.

It had also approved the revival of Mushir-ul-Haq Chair for inter-faith studies. The chair would be set up in the name of the former vice chancellor of the university and eminent Islamic scholar who was assassinated by militants on April 10 in 1990.
In another decision, the council approved the transfer of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Srinagar to the University of Kashmir. The institute is currently managed by by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
