The Kerala tourism department has kicked off a series of marketing initiatives in Scandinavia. Recently, the department conducted several roadshows here to attract more travellers.
The delegations was led by M Sivasankar, director, Kerala Tourism.
The first roadshow kicked off in Oslo, Norway, earlier this week, followed by Copenhagen in Denmark and Helsinki in Finland. A total of 59 major tour operators (buyers) participated in the Helsinki roadshow, 56 in the Copenhagen and 49 in Oslo.
The last leg of the Scandinavian roadshow was in Stockholm, Sweden, on November 5. Kerala Tourism will also be participating in two consumers activities in the city including a 10-day ‘ Delicious Kerala’ food festival and a three-day ‘Allt For Halsan’ (health and wellness) exhibition, where the traditional ayurveda treatment system will be showcased.
Scandinavia is a growing market for Kerala tourism, said Sivasankar. “Within Scandinavia, Sweden commands the largest share of outbound travel market in terms of volume and value. Hence, we are very keen to develop this market,” he added. In 2008, Sweden showed a 103 per cent growth in tourist arrivals to Kerala while Denmark registered a 46.3 increase.
