The Kerala government is likely to kick off measures soon to cancel the licences of monopoly retail chains that currently function in the state.

Kerala's minister for food and civil supplies C Divakaran told the Assembly on Tuesday that the government would consider revoking licences issued to monopoly retail companies that allow them to operate their businesses.

Adding that the government will take effective steps to make essential commodities available to the common public at affordable rates, Divakaran clarified that the state administration would open People's Bazaars across the state. This apart, the state government's unique Mobile Maveli stores would be expanded.
