Kerala Police is in a bid to change the negative publicity hurled at them quite often. Towards that effort and to bring in transparency in case investigation and policing, Kerala Police has come out with a new e-intiative. The initiative which is christened 'Know Your FIR online', helps a person to know the status of First Information Report (FIR) online or complaints at police stations by logging into the official website of Kerala Police.

This facility is being provided and maintained by the Police Computer Centre and State Crime Records Bureau of the Kerala Police. The move is  part of the State government's plan to bring in transparency in governance and solve public issues in a faster and easier manner.

According to the official website of Kerala Police, any one of the information such as FIR number or name of the petitioner or date of registration of the FIR has to be given to access the details.

The status of the case, including the acts and sections involved, contact details of the investigating officer, name of the filing court, and case details, etc are available online.

As part of the project, cases registered at the police stations will be recorded through the Daily Crime Reporting and Monitoring System (DCRMS) and the details are conveyed to the public through the interface provided in the Kerala Police website, the website said.

“The online system will enable senior officers to monitor the progress of the investigation. The details on the website will also help the police to track crime cases,” said a senior police officer in the state. Earlier in July this year, the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had introduced a 24-hour live webcasting facility from his official chamber of at the state secretariat to ensure transparency in administration. Chandy also manages a twitter account as part of his transparency initiative.
