Kolkata Fashion Week (KFW), in its second season this September, promises to be a more ‘serious’ fashion destination and expects to see more business generated during the week.
“The second season of Kolkata Fashion Week will be on a much bigger canvas. This time KFW II will be a five-day event with 36 shows,” said Yudhajit Dutta, Managing Director, Mindscapes Maestros Events and Sports Management, the company who masterminded the event.
Designers present at the event last year said “while the first event was more of an awareness creation, the second season is expected to see more serious buyers”.
KFW II will be hosted between September 9 and 13, and will focus on the theme ‘Earth Couture’ as the year 2009 has been declared as ‘The International Year of Natural Fibre’ by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, and will feature several budding designers and local weavers.
“Apart from providing 16 new designers a chance to showcase their creations, we would also have a nationwide model hunt from where we will shortlist 20 contestants who would participate in the second season of Kolkata Fashion Week,” added Dutta.
