The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra), the nodal agency for the development of industrial infrastructure in the state, is setting up seven small industrial parks in different districts under the Integrated Infrastructure Development Scheme (IIDC) of the Government of India.

While the first Kinfra Small Industrial Park (K-SIP) has recently come up in Thumba of Thiruvanathapuram district and allotments have been made to 26 units.

The park is almost operational, and infrastructure development works, except the Kerala State Electricity Board's power line, have been completed.

Allotments have started at three other K-SIPs, one each in Seethangoli taluka of Kasargode district and another at Mazhuvannur taluka of Ernakulam district as well as at Thalassery in Kannur district.

The remaining three parks "" coming up at Kalpetta in Wayanad, Koratty in Thrissur and at Kunnamthanam in Pathanamthitta "" would be ready for occupation and go operational within the next 12 months.

Emphasising that K-SIPs would provide a 'walk-in and manufacture environment' to entrepreneurs, Kinfra managing director Gopala Pillai said to ensure speedy clearance, the government has notified K-SIPs as industrial areas under the single-window clearance scheme.

This eliminates the tiring process of getting permissions and clearances involved with starting an industrial unit.

Under IIDC, plots are allotted at subsidised rates. At the K-SIP in Kasargod, the plots are being offered to entrepreneurs at Rs 2 lakh per acre and the lease would be for 90 years, he added.

All the K-SIPs will be linked to a modern communication network and have well-designed internal roads, healthcare centre, cafeteria and round-the-clock security.

The other common amenities at these parks include a conference hall, exhibition-cum-training centre, recreation room, bank and post office.
