Nepal's King Gyanendra today announced that he was transferring power to the people and asked the seven-party opposition alliance to name a new interim prime minister. In a televised address to the nation, King Gyanendra said power was being returned to the people and he would like elections to be held as soon as possible. Until a new government is formed the present council of ministers would continue, King Gyanendra said.
