The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has spend around 60 lakh rupees to felicitate filmstar Shahrukh Khan owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for winning the Indian Premier League in 2012.
"An amount of Rs 59.68 lakh from the Mayor's Fund was spent to felicitate the winning KKR team," Mayor Shovan Chatterjee told the opposition Left Front Councillors of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation here on Wednesday.
When the Left Councillors wanted to know whether any tender was invited for felicitation function, the Mayor said "as the function was held at a very short notice, so no tenders were invited."
On May 29, this year the KKR team was felicitated by the KMC for winning IPL Championship. The felicitation function was held at the Eden Gardens and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a host of senior state government ministers and Mayor were present on the occasion.
The KKR team is owned by filmstar Shahrukh Khan, who is also the brand ambassador of West Bengal government.
