National Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda has said the commission will study the issue of reservation in education institutions to decide if the present system of providing access to education through quotas should continue or a better system of affirmative action was needed.

"We will study what has been the outcome of reservation in the past and where we are as a result of it," Pitroda said.

The panel has also recommended issuing a common identification number to every citizen on the lines of the social security number system prevalent in the US.

The idea is to make all identity-related details like ration card, driving licence and voter-ID of an individual available through a single number.
