As raids continued in the premises of former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda for the fourth day today, a top income tax official alleged non-cooperation by him resulting in delay in the conclusion of investigation into alleged huge 'hawala transactions' and 'illegal investments'.
Asked if Koda was cooperating with the I-T sleuths, Director-General (IG-Investigation), Anjani Kumar, told reporters: "Not much. If I get proper support and cooperation, the investigation will conclude soon."
Kumar was here on Monday as the I-T officials continued questioning Koda in his Ranchi residence.
Setting a deadline of November 6 against six of Koda's alleged aides to appear before the I-T officials "to explain certain transactions and events", the department warned that if they failed to appear, strict legal actions would be taken as permissible under various laws.
The raids began on Saturday, on 70 places in nine cities across the country, with the I-T department claiming to have found evidence of 'hawala transactions' and 'illegal investments' running into more than Rs 2,000 crore.
Binod Kumar Sinha, a close aide of Koda, is among six persons against whom the deadline for appearance has been set.
Both Koda and Sinha were booked by the Enforcement Directorate, which had filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), equivalent to an FIR, in connection with hawala transactions a fortnight ago.
