Kozhikode gets nine development projects

The proposed projects include an IT infrastructure project to be set up at Mavoor Gwalior Rayons land under the public-private partnership

Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy today announced nine new developmental projects for the Kozhikode district.

The proposed projects include an IT infrastructure project to be set up at Mavoor Gwalior Rayons land under the public-private partnership, and the chief minister said the project proposal was in its final stages.

A light metro rail project would also be taken up with the support of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Though a mono rail project was first proposed in the district initially, it was changed after it was found impractical.

The district collector has been entrusted to submit a report regarding a mobility hub in the district. Funds worth Rs 40 crore have been sanctioned for building flyovers at Thondayadu, Ramanattukara in the district.

The state finance department had given its approval for a Rs 8.74 crore project proposed by the irrigation department to protect close to 400 fishing families from sea surge. Families living in Thaoppayil colony, Bangladesh colony, Puthiyangadi-Edakkulam areas would get benefitted from the project.

Chandy informed the Vellayil fishing harbor was nearing completion.

The state irrigation and the tourism department in a tie up with Nabard would work on a new project to clean the Kanoli canal.

The Manachira-Vellimadu Kunnu road project would be implemented by including it under the state's Annuity project. A fund of Rs 400 crore has been sanctioned for the project.

Of it, Rs 350 crore would be utilised for acquiring land.

The chief minister also informed that a five acre land at Ulliyeri would be allotted for starting a third Kendriya Vidyalaya in the district.
