With too little time on its hands to mount a full-scale offensive against its political rivals in Karnataka, the Congress high command on Wednesday rushed former chief minister and present Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna to the state to work out strategies geared at summoning support for the party in the run-up to the Assembly polls.

Krishna today submitted his resignation to President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi, a day after Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami dropped enough hints about conducting elections in Karnataka before the end of President's rule on May 28. Krishna, in fact, was in Bangalore watching a tennis tournament, when he was told about the decision.
