Labour Unions Seek Postponement Of Amendments To Labour Laws

Labour unions today asked the government to postpone any amendment to labour laws till the second National Labour Commission submits its report.

They suggested that the Disinvestment Commission be made a tripartite body including worker representatives and have also sought a review of the divestment policy.

In their pre-Budget meeting with finance minister Yashwant Sinha today, the labour unions also asked for enactment of a comprehensive legislation for workers in the unorganised sector, especially agriculture.

They also asked for a hike in the interest rate from 9.5 per cent to 12 per cent on provident funds.
