At least 20 people, including policemen, were killed and 40 injured today when a powerful blast rocked a busy thoroughfare in this eastern Pakistani city.The explosion ripped through GPO Chowk near the Lahore High Court at 11.45 AM (local time) while a large number of policemen were taking up position in the area ahead of a protest march by lawyers.A Geo News reporter who was at the site to cover the protest reported witnessing a massive blast and huge ball of flame. The reporter also said he had seen a severed head lying several metres away from the site of the blast, giving rise to suspicions that it was a suicide bombing.Most of the dead were policemen, TV channels reported. A meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association was underway before the protest march at the time of the blast.The explosion also damaged numerous vehicles in the area. Policemen immediately cordoned off the area and ambulances rushed to GPO Chowk to ferry the bodies and injured to nearby hospitals.Lahore is the capital of eastern Punjab province.
