Congress president Sitaram Kesri has said Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav should himself step down following the CBI chargesheet against him in the multi-crore fodder scam.I think Laloo himself should step down, Kesri said in an interview to a private TV channel yesterday.

Asked why Congress was not applying the same yardstick of asking its partymen, chargesheeted by the CBI, to quit, Kesri said he had already taken action. I have expelled Sukh Ram. This is an open secret, he added.

The Congress president ruled out the possibility of his attempting to takeover power in the event of the fall of the United Front government.

This government will not fall. So the question does not arise. I shall not takeover the government. I have no ambition to get into power...

I want Gujral to continue as Prime Minister, he said.

On why Congress withdrew support to the Gowda government, Kesri said the withdrawal of support was against Gowda as Prime Minister and not against the United Front government.
