The MP government is unlikely to pay heed to the state chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII's) assertion that development charges levied by the State Industrial Development Corporation in various industrial areas have badly affected industry. |
The CII has brought this factor to the notice of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who, according to a CII spokesperson, has assured the apex chamber that the issue will be sorted out soon. |
The CII, in a memorandum submitted to Chouhan, has said: "JK Tyre & Industries has projected a case wherein the increase in development charges has been 1,800 per cent. The charges are multifold, from 50 per cent to 1,800 per cent, depending on the leased land area allotted to the respective industries." |
The memorandum also said the state Industrial Department Corporation arm had leased land to industry for 99 years but now it had announced an upward revision in annual development and maintenance charges without providing additional services or facilities. |
The CII has said the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IIDC), Gwalior, has provided no better infrastructure. |
"Industry is not allowed to sell leased land. However, it can only surrender it to the Corporation," the CII has said in the statement. |
While land has become a rare commodity for industry in Madhya Pradesh, the State Industrial Development Corporation and its subsidiaries in Indore, Gwalior, Mandideep, Jabalpur, Dewas and Rewa have raised land development charges. Also, important commercial roads like the Bhopal-Indore, Bhopal-Mandideep and Jabalpur-Bhopal roads are in a very bad shape. |
"Except for a few areas there is an acute shortage of water. A large number of private water suppliers are operating in Dewas even in the rainy season. Industry in the Dewas, Mandideep and Sagar industrial areas are facing a tough time, an industrialist said. |

Industry Minister Jayant Malaiya, Principal Secretary (Department of Industries) Avani Vaish, and State Industries Development Corporation Managing Director Praveen Garg were not available for comment. |
