In a boost to the proposed uranium mining in Meghalaya, two organisations representating the villagers and land owners of the site have given the ‘go- ahead’ to the government but with riders that included a slew of developmental packages and safety norms.
A group of land owners and villagers visited the UCIL mining site in Jharkhand recently and they were understood to have been convinced that there were no health hazards arising from mining in the areas.
“We have found no health hazards in the mining areas in Jadugoda,” said the leader of the two organizations Roshem Myrthong after submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister Donkupar Roy.
In their memorandum, the two organizations sought a Rs 10 crore package to develop the proposed mining areas in West Khasi Hills annually.
