Though 5,000 acres have been identified for industries in and around Mysore, the land acquisitions are taking place at a snail's pace. Besides, increasing investments in lands by private parties may hinder the future industrial growth of Mysore. |
The department of industries in Karnataka sees the land scenario in Mysore as bleak unless measures are initiated immediately to acquire the identified lands. |
"Land allotment in Mysore for industries is becoming more and more difficult. We have identified 8-10 areas for industrial purposes. These lands need to be acquired immediately," said H Prakash, joint director of industries, Mysore Industries Centre. |
He said the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) was not allotting lands to small and medium industries. Meanwhile, lands around Mysore are being grabbed by real estate developers from Bangalore. |
Udyog Mitra is allotting lands in Yelwal, Koorgahalli and other parts on the outskirts of Mysore. But this amounted to only around 300 acres. These places can be developed as satellite towns to check congestion as seen in Bangalore, Prakash said. |
At a seminar organised jointly by the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bangalore-based Processware Systems (P) Ltd, Prakash appealed to the IT-BT principal secretary Aunp Pujari, who inaugurated the programme, to direct the authorities to hasten acquisition of industrial lands. |
Concurrign with the opinion, chamber president H N Ramathirtha said the KIADB had auctioned one acre for Rs 2.5 crore a few days ago. |
The auction has defeated the very objective of the KIADB, which had been constituted to provide land and other infrastructure at a lesser price to entrepreneurs. |
The KIADB was cancelling land allotments to SMEs on flimsy grounds and auctioning them, he said. |
Anup Pujari also said that Mysore is the best destination for biotechnology too, with institutions like the CFTRI located there. It is also an ideal centre for promoting science and technology with a number of related academic institutions. Mysore, apart from Mangalore, is being projected as an IT destination, after Bangalore. |
