A 142-year-old Act is likely to be amended to facilitate smooth registration of newspaper titles, especially by foreign publications in India. With the government willing to amend the Press and Registration of Books Act 1867, foreign publications may find it easy to get their titles registered in the country.
The foreign publications earlier found the task difficult as titles sounding similar to many known international publications were already registered here.
The Centre’s willingness was conveyed to a print media delegation by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni.
