LDF walkout over tsunami fund use

The opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala today staged a walkout in the Assembly protesting against the government's "unsatisfactory" reply on the utilisation of funds collected for tsunami relief work.

Seeking an adjournment motion on the Lokayukta order yesterday asking the government to furnish details of the amount spent from the chief minister's relief fund for tsunami affected, Binoy Viswan (CPI) alleged that the government had diverted funds for purposes not connected with tsunami relief.

Replying to the notice for the motion, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy denied the opposition charge that the fund had been spent for matters other than tsunami relief.
