The Left parties, generally considered as a regimented force, have started facing increased rebellions over their candidate selection in West Bengal for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

On Thursday morning, the CPI(M) had to expel its sitting Lok Sabha MP Abu Ayes Mondal after he went to meet Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. In the evening, All India Forward Block (AIFB)’s Lok Sabha MP Hiten Barman quit the party as he was denied ticket.

Mondal is trying to get a ticket from Banerjee for the newly formed East Burdwan seat. His Katwa seat was abolished in the delimitation exercise.

Barman, meanwhile, was the sitting MP in the Cooch Behar constituency in North Bengal.
