In a bid to signal the beginning of a nationwide stir against the Posco project, the Left parties have decided to observe the upcoming Friday as the 'Solidarity Day'.

Addressing media persons, S Sudhakar Reddy, deputy general secretary of CPI said, “Our party has decided to launch a country wide agitation by observing the ‘Solidarity Day’ on June 24 against the forcible land acquisition in Dhinkia with all Left and secular forces".

Reddy's sentiments were echoed by the leaders of Forward Bloc, Samajwadi Party, Rahstriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).

Observing the Black Day at Dhinkia today with the activists of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), Reddy flayed the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to acquire land forcibly from poverty stricken farmers and tribals at gun point to appease a multinational company.

“The associations which are working for the cause of farmers and environmental issues in the country will participate in this nation wide agitation on June 24. Besides, our party has also decided to launch a country wide agitation next month till its logical conclusion. The plans include picketing of Central government offices throughout the country as well as holding demonstrations, dharanas and rallies”, he added.
