This was revealed by the Minister for excise and sericulture Chennigappa to reporters in Dharwad on Friday. |
The minister said that this will prevent consumption of spurious liquor besides enhancing revenue to the government. |
When asked if the government will persist on opening a liquor shop in a village if the gram panchayat of that village passes a resolution against it, Chennigappa initially said that the decision of a few members of the panchayat was not a reflection of villagers' opinion. He said that the revenue had gone up by 48 per cent in August this year. |
