Farmers in Chhattisgarh have been disbursed loans worth Rs 800 crore by district cooperative central banks in the current kharif season.
Official sources today said as against a target of Rs 1,000 crore, farm loans of Rs 799.91 crore have been given to agriculturists till now.
The cooperative banks are disbursing these loans at an annual interest rate of 3 per cent through primary agriculture produce cooperative committees.
The government has announced to provide loans worth Rs 1,000 crore to farmers this monsoon. Of this amount, Rs 600 crore would in cash and the rest as subsidies for fertilisers, seed and other farm-related material, the sources said.
Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Bank officials said that out of the targeted sum, Rs 485.69 crore in cash and Rs 314.22 crore as subsidies have been distributed till now.
In the 2008 kharif season, farm loans worth Rs 642.80 crore were distributed in Chhattisgarh.
The officials said Chhattisgarh is the only state in the country giving farm loans at 3 per cent annual interest rate.
