LondonMet varsity inks MoU with Loyola College

London Metropolitan University (LondonMet) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chennai-based Loyola College for jointly developing undergraduate and post-graduate programmes.
 
Signing the agreement, Fr Albert Muthumalai, principal, Loyola College, said, "Our collaboration with LondonMet will include student and staff exchange programmes, development of curriculum and teaching methodologies, and also, forming the basis for joint research in various fields. We will also have a system of credit transfer under this agreement."
 
However, the two parties have not yet disclosed the details about the courses. "We will start our cooperation with a short-term faculty exchange programme in the next academic year. Negotiations are on for giving concession in fees for students of Loyola College who wish to study at LondonMet for a semester or a year," Fr Albert added.
 
This is the first time that LondonMet is signing an agreement with an Indian educational institution.
 
The UK-based university has similar agreements with universities in other countries including China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and South Africa.
 
"This is our first project with India and we believe that transfer of students from Britain to India and vice-versa will be an enriching experience for both of us. Of around 36,000 students in our university, around 400 are from India," Mark Bickerton, director, student recruitment, marketing and communications, said.
 
Loyola College has similar agreements with London South Bank University (to offer courses in international business and corporate governance), Little Catholic University of France, and Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS). Currently, Loyola College offers 25 UG and 20 PG programmes.
 
It will offer two new PG courses in Food Sciences and Nano Sciences from the next academic year. LondonMet offers 300 UG, 100 PG and 60 PhD specialization courses.
