LS adjourned till 2 pm over PM's security harassment issue

Uproar over a member's alleged harassment by Prime Minister's security personnel in Parliament precincts forced adjournment of the Lok Sabha for nearly two hours today.

BSP and Samajwadi Party members rushed into the Well as soon the House reassembled at noon after an earlier adjournment, demanding action against the Special Protection Group personnel responsible for the incident in which BSP MP Rama Shankar Rajbhar was allegedly manhandled.

"In the name of providing security to the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament are being insulted day in and day out. It is an insult to this august House," BSP leader Dara Singh Chauhan said and demanded a thorough probe into the matter and action against those found guilty.

Deputy Speaker Karia Munda, after hearing Chauhan, said he would bring the matter to the notice of Speaker Meira Kumar.

Slogan-shouting Left and TDP members, carrying placards, were also in the Well demanding a debate on agrarian crisis and the plight of farmers.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was seen talking to the agitated BSP members and senior Ministers PK Bansal and Harish Rawat urging them to return to their seats.

As the din continued, Munda adjourned the House till 2 pm after ordering the laying of papers and allowing introduction of a Bill to set up Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development.
