Five and a half companies of central forces, micro observers and video cameras in polling booths were part of the stringent security arrangements in Nandigram, which is part of the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat, going to the polls tomorrow.
"Nandigram is no more just a place. It is more like an issue. If something happens at Nandigram, there are repercussions in the whole state. We are extra alert and have taken all measures for a peaceful election," East Midnapore District Magistrate and Returning Officer Choten Dhendup Lama told PTI here.
Besides deployment of central forces in every polling booth, there would be micro observers and video cameras, she said.Two companies of central force would be deployed in each of the six other assembly segments under this parliamentary constituency, she said.
Asked whether she apprehended violence in the CPI(M) stronghold of Khejuri, Lama said that precautionary measures have been taken everywhere.Superintendent of Police, East Midnapore Pallab Kanti Ghose said that there would be both static and mobile forces and armed police in each booth. Police camps would be set up at Bhangabera and Tekhali.
A BSF commandant said they would ensure peaceful and fair election.Asked whether the BSF would flag march the area, he said it was upto the state authorities to decide.
