Development of water tourism in Madhya Pradesh is the next big thing planned by the state government.

Hanuwantiya, located in the reservoir of Indira Sagar Dam on river Narmada, has come up as one of the major tourist attractions for water tourism and adventure sports.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) has also initiated an annual event, Jal Mahotsav, at Hanuwantiya.

“We have marked five destinations which will be developed for water tourism and sports. After Hanuwantiya, the others will be Bargi, Gandhi Sagar, Bansagar and Tawa,” said Tapan Bhowmik, chairman, MPTDC at a Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh function.

We have ample land on these destinations which includes islands on backwaters and big plots on shore, added Bhowmik.

Hanuwantiya alone has around 35 islands in the backwaters with some measuring upto 6 acre, 12 acre and 18 acre.
