As part of promoting construction of eco-friendly buildings, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday said that a 'Green Code' will be enforced to develop more than 20,000 sq ft land.

The code will be used first in government and public service buildings.

Under this, some provisions are mandatory, while some others are optional for developers. Those developers, who are implementing optional provisions, will be considered for concessions by the government.

As part of the initiative to encourage green buildings, the proposal is to set up one-window clearance scheme for giving immediate environment-related permissions and clearances, preserving nature and environment in the vicinity of the buildings, solid waste management, rain water harvesting, gardens on terrace, construction of maximum windows and glass-panes. This is to ensure that there is natural light, giving white paint to the terrace and white tiles.
