The Maharashtra government signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with seven companies for an investment of Rs 5,444 crore in backward areas that will create around 6,000 jobs.The MoUs were signed by Industry Secretary V K Jairath and CEOs of the companies at the Mantralya today. Industry Minister Ashok Chavan was also present on the occasion.Romin Mining and Industries will invest Rs 2,500 crore to set up an alumina refinery and captive power plant at Dabhol in Chiplun taluka of Ratnagiri district. The refinery is expected to create 1,100 new jobs.Konkan Alumina will invest Rs 1,350 crore in an alumina plant and captive power plant at Shirse in Rajapur taluka of Ratnagiri district. The alumina plant will provide jobs to 300 people.Jindal Saw will invest Rs 350 crore in an expansion project at its existing plant at Malegaon in Sinnar taluka of Nashik district. The investment is expected to increase the capacity of the plant to manufacture seamless tubes from 75,000 tonne to 2,20,000 tonne per annum.
