Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis flags off walkathon to raise awareness about organ

This event was part of state government strong push to promote awareness on cadaver donation

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged off the state government's 'Maha Organ Donation Mission awareness MahaRally' here on Tuesday.

"We all pledged for organ donation today and I appeal everyone to join this noble cause and together, let's save lives!" Fadnavis said.

"Organ donation gives us the opportunity to serve the society even after death and we can give life to many," he said.

"There was a great response for the organ donation initiative," Fadnavis tweeted. "Students, doctors, social organisations and citizens joined us for spreading awareness," he added.

The event was part of the state government's strong push to promote awareness on cadaver donation.

The walk started from the Murli Deora Chawk at Nariman Point. Families of deceased patients who had donated their organs were felicitated.

The awareness drive included several transplant hospitals and doctors attached with organ-transplantation procedures.

According to Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre, the state plans aggressive awareness campaigns on organ donation. Maharashtra is now next to Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the count of maximum number of organ transplants in India.

Meanwhile, in Nashik, the district administration and

Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) organised a huge rally to create awareness about organ donation.

The rally was flagged off by BJP MLA Seema Hiray, mayor Ashok Murtadak and MUHS Vice Chancellor Dilip Mhaisekar, an official release said.

Several college students, civil surgeons and nurses participated in the rally.
