Inaugurating a combined daily service between Singapore and Kolkata by Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its regional wing SilkAir, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged the investors from Singapore to invest in different sectors in the state.
“I would like to use this platform to ask the investors from Singapore to come and invest their money in the state. There are many opportunities for them here,” Banerjee said, on the occasion of official inauguration of Kolkata-Singapore daily flights service by SIA group.
“The daily flights to Singapore will boost and strengthen our relation with Singapore,” she added.
Earlier, the Singapore airlines used to operate four flights a week to Kolkata. Now, SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has commenced four weekly services from Kolkata this month.
Together with Singapore Airlines' three weekly flights to the city, both the airlines will operate a total of seven round-trip services per week.
“We believe Kolkata offers tremendous opportunities for both inbound and outbound travel, be it for business or leisure,” said Marvin Tan, Chief executive of SilkAir.
Apart from Kolkata, SilkAir operates in six Indian other cities —Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
