Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee today said she has spoken to Union Minister P Chidambaram and apprised him about the situation at Raina in Burdwan district, where two of her party supporters were killed.
"I spoke to Chidambaram yesterday and apprised him of the situation at Raina where the CPI(M) with the help of the police have unleashed a reign of terror," Banerjee who is now in Delhi said.
"Chidambaram tried to speak to the West Bengal Chief Minister over phone, but no one picked it up," Banerjee said.
She claimed that Chidambaram told her "They are doing this as they will go out of power (in West Bengal)."
The armed CPI(M) cadre, which was responsible for the violence would not be spared in the event of the Trinamool Congress coming to power in West Bengal, she said.
Trinamool Congress leader and Union minister Mukul Roy said the party supremo had sought Chidambaram's intervention into the "state-sponsored violence". "CPI(M) and a section of police are indulging in violence to recover lost political ground in the state. The Left Front government has lost the moral right to continue in office," he said. He said Banerjee would address a rally at Burdwan on December 5, in the same place where Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had recently held a meeting.
He claimed that the chief minister's remarks at the meeting that either there would be Leftists or death, had incited the yesterday's violence at Raina.
