Mangalore Customs & #8217; Revenue Up

The gross receipts of Mangalore commissionarate of customs during 2002-03 were up at Rs 1,055 crore as against Rs 582 crore in 2001-02, P R V Ramanan, the chief commissioner of customs(Karnataka), told reporters here today.

The net receipts after drawbacks to exporters also went up to Rs 942.50 crore in 2002-03 as against Rs 579.96 crore. He said the Bangalore zone consisting of commissionarates at Bangalore, Mangalore and Kochi, earned a surplus of Rs 440 crore, last fiscal.

The department achieved its target of Rs 3,047 crore during the February itself and its receipts for the March 2003 were Rs 440 crore. The growth of Mangalore and Kochi commissionarates was 50 per cent and for the zone as a whole 26 per cent.

The zone performance in revenue collection was one of the highest realisations in India. MRPL owes Rs 91 crore to the department and the total dues owed by various agencies to Mangalore Commissionarate were Rs 104 crore.

The website of Mangalore customs has its domain name as www.mangalorecustoms.org. The department has included an additional feature i.e., online status of bills of entry and shipping bills.

Importers and exporters can register themselves without interacting with customs officials using their IE code. They can get their list of shipping bill, bill of entry, pending with reasons and stage where it is pending.
