Many persons were injured and two feared dead, according to unconfirmed reports, in a train accident in Malda, West Bengal, late on Sunday evening.
"Around 7 pm on Sunday, engine and six bogies of 12510-down Guwahati-Bangalore Express derailed onto the adjacent tracks, about 10 km away from Malda town. After that Azamgarh-Malda Passenger train, coming that way, collided with the derailed engine of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express resulting in derailment of four bogies of the passenger train," said Samir Goswami, spokesperson, Eastern Railway adding that no casualties were reported according to initial reports.
However, a relief team and a medical train, were sent to the spot and the injured were taken to Malda district hospital.
Meanwhile, Railways minister Dinesh Triwedi has claimed that there were no casualties and around 20 persons suffered minor injuries. He also said that such accidents cannot be 'tolerated'. The minister said that he will come up with a detailed statement after probing the cause of accident.
