The government will consider applications for import of rough marble blocks and slabs from only those applicants who have set up a manufacturing or processing unit and had imported the item earlier when it was on the special import license list.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the ministry of commerce and industry, has issued a circular specifying the criteria for obtaining licence for import of rough marbles.

The Exim Facilitation Committee (EFC) will also consider applications from four or five star hotels on the basis of recommendations of ministry of tourism. Applications of those managing places of worship or trusts of international repute will be considered on the basis of recommendations of the ministry of home affairs.

The DGFT circular said these licences would be subject to a floor price that would be endorsed on all licenses. The floor price for crude or roughly trimmed marbles and rough marble blocks is around $300 per MT, and $450 per MT for slabs.

The DGFT has also said prospective licenceholders will have to file monthly returns regarding imports made by them to the concerned regional licensing authority.
