In a marginal increase, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region was today given an allocation of Rs 1,762 crore in the Union Budget as against last year's Rs 1759 crore.
The fund has been given to the DONER Ministry to implement various developmental schemes in the long-sequestered region.
Out of the total outlay, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee made an allocation of Rs 633 crore to the North Eastern Council -- the regional planning body -- to carry out various schemes.
A separate allocation of Rs 799 crore has been made under grants from Central Pool of Resources for the region.
In the budget, Rs 73 crore has been proposed to improve the rural roads while Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for developmental projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council in lower Assam.
A fund of Rs 35 crore has also been set aside for the North Eastern Livelihood project under which jobless people are being given vocational training.
The North Eastern Development Finance Corporeation, which was set up to support infrastructure projects in the region has been given an assistance of Rs 60 crore in the budget.
