Materials used under RGGVY to be exempted from VAT

The Orissa government will exempt the materials used in the electrification of rural areas under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) from payments of value added tax (VAT) and entry tax.

Sources said, the value added tax (VAT) and the entry tax will be waived in procurement of various materials used for electrification like poles, conductors, transformers used in RGGVY. Similarly, the inspection fees on the electrical installations will also be exempted.

The cabinet also approved an amendment to the Orissa Heads of the Department Stenographers Service (recruitment and condition of service of private secretaries, personal assistants and stenographers) rule 1988. It stipulates that the senior stenographers who have completed 12 years both as junior and senior stenographer and have successfully completed the probation will be considered for promotion to the post of personal assistant.
