All the six corporation towns, including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda, Patiala and SAS Nagar, will have Maxi Cab service to supplement the local transport system along with providing doorstep services to the residents. These towns would also run the service to adjoining villages that are devoid of regular bus service.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today instructed the transport secretary to make these services operational within two months, since people living in isolated villages were facing lot of problems for commuting and had to depend on various means of transport to reach the nearby city. The State Transport Commissioner was asked to identify the routes within 15 days and float the services within 30 days. Meanwhile, to supplement the local bus service and to provide doorstep services to the city residents Maxi Cab service would be also introduced within the corporation towns to provide safe and comfortable means of transportation to the citizens. The Deputy Chief Minister said after monitoring the success of this service, “This service would also be replicated in bigger towns and cities within a year”.
