In a move which sent shock waves among the bureaucracy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has rehabilitated eight senior officials who are accused of corruption or income tax irregularities.

The first and foremost is the case of Neera Yadav. He has been given the lucrative post of principal secretary, Transport. Others who were under a cloud and have now been given lucrative posts include SC Gupta, now made chief engineer Mandi Parishad, R P Tyagi, former VC Ghaziabad Development Authority and PN Misra of PCS.

These officers are acting in concert. They, sources point out, had a long session together with Mayawati and Kanshi Ram following which the rehabilitation happened. There was intense bargaining before the deal was stuck, it is stated.

These powerful officials have managed to get all their IT cases transferred from UP to Delhi. They, acting in concert, have won over the ruling politicians and have now emerged as powerful bloc spreading influence and winning over the influential politicians.

They are expected to play a powerful role in the state, acting as an antidote to the cleansing campaign of the UP State IAS Association.

The association has been trying to evolve a policy to further its campaign but has not been able to make any headway. Its efforts to meet

Mayawati and discuss the situation with her and seek the removal of the three most corrupt officers identified by the AGM of the IAS Association failed. Twice the delegation went to meet her but she refused to meet them after giving them time on one pretext on the other.

Now the association plans to meet the Prime Minister and ask him to withdraw three officials from UP cadre and institute a CBI inquiry against them. The three officers are Neera Yadav, Brijendra Yadav and AP Singh who is the agricultural production commissioner of the state.
